Istria by

For nearly two decades, Istria has been a favorite destination for cyclists and lovers of the active life. Cycling is the main outdoor product: over 160 official routes covering 5,000 km. Enthusiasts can find all the necessary information (routes, descriptions, GPX recordings) at

High-quality cycling maps are available at local tourist boards, and routes on the ground are marked with standardized signage. In Istria, it is possible to ride along countless paths, lanes and quiet traffic-free routes that wind through unspoiled nature, ancient villages and small towns.

You can travel solo or use the many services: renting a bicycle, being accompanied by a licensed guide, arranging transportation, or bicycle service. For overnight accommodations there are the 140 specialized Istra Bike&Bed facilities.

To explore the route where the trains of yesteryear used to travel, we pedal along the Parenzana from the Slovenian border to Poreč-Poreč (78 km), along a dirt road through breathtaking scenery, unspoiled nature and historic towns. Or along the Štrika, the route of the former railway that ran from Rovinj-Rovigno to Kanfanar-Canfanaro, renovated in recent years.

Another advantage of Istria is definitely its pleasant and mild climate that allows for year-round cycling. The many guests are familiar with the Istrian peninsula for summer fun and the sea.

Don’t miss one of the best regions for cycling and outdoor activities, and if you haven’t been there yet, now is the time to do it!

Kvarner © Vladimir Franolić

The name Kvarner comes from the ancient Romans, who are believed to have named this area Qua(te)rnarius referring to the meeting of the 4 celestial directions, the meeting of all parts of the world, and the meeting of different traditions and cultures. Kvarner, as the cradle of Croatian tourism is one of the TOP 3 tourist regions in Croatia with a combination of littoral, sea and mountains (Opatija, Rijeka, Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski, the islands of Krk, Cres, Lošinj and Rab, Gorski kotar).

Kvarner is crisscrossed by marked walks, thematic and educational trails with a total length of more than 3,000 km. There are so many of them: they lead you along the seashore, along cliffs and through wooded paths to irresistible glimpses to capture with a camera that will remain forever in your memory.

Such routes will take you to upscale accommodations, typical restaurants that will lure you with the heady aromas of Kvarner dishes and Mediterranean and mountain cuisine.

It is wonderful to explore the Kvarner destination on two wheels along the marked bicycle routes. You can stop and rest wherever you want: on the beach, in an inn, along picturesque bays, in the woods, near a lookout…

Mountain bikers will find in Kvarner what suits them. Those who want to test their limits and feel theadrenaline rush can choose one of the more challenging downhill trails, for example, the one where the World Cup in downhill is held in Mali Lošinj or the enduro trail on Rudnik Hill near Tršće in Gorski kotar.
