Istria Region
For nearly two decades, Istria has been a favorite destination for cyclists and lovers of the active life. Cycling is the main outdoor product: more than 160 official routes covering 5,000 km. Enthusiasts can find all the necessary information (routes, descriptions, GPX recordings) at www.istria-bike.com. High-quality cycling maps are available at local tourist boards, and routes on the ground are marked with standardized signage. In Istria, it is possible to ride along countless paths, lanes and quiet traffic-free routes that wind through unspoiled nature, ancient villages and small towns.
You can travel solo or use the many services: renting a bicycle, being accompanied by a licensed guide, arranging transportation, or bicycle service. For overnight accommodations there are the 140 specialized Istra Bike&Bed facilities.
To explore the route where the trains of yesteryear used to travel, you can pedal along the Parenzana, which stretches from the Slovenian border to Poreč (78 km). This route takes you along a dirt road through breathtaking scenery, unspoiled nature, and historic towns. Alternatively, you can follow the Štrika, the former railway route that has been renovated in recent years, running from Rovinj to Kanfanar
Another advantage of Istria is definitely its pleasant and mild climate that allows for year-round cycling. The many guests are familiar with the Istrian peninsula for summer fun and the sea.
