Legambiente has been engaged for years in promoting active and sustainable forms of tourism and, in particular, in the development of bicycle and bicycle touring routes that are easily accessible even to less experienced users.

This year’s Bicycle Tourism Fair will again exclusively host the presentation of Traveling by Bike, the 4th Bicycle Tourism Report produced by Legambiente and ISNART, the National Institute for Tourism Research of the Chambers of Commerce, in collaboration with Bikenomist.

The appointments

In the coming months, Legambiente will also be engaged on a number of important events for cycling enthusiasts, including Art, Bike & Run + Wine and Appennino Bike Tour.

Art Bike & Run + Wine is the international event, promoted by Legambiente in collaboration with the Chieti-Pescara Chamber of Commerce, which will take place on the Via Verde, one of Italy’s most fascinating 42-kilometer-long bicycle and pedestrian paths that connects Ortona with San Salvo. The trail was built on the old decommissioned railroad track from where more than 300 kilometers of bicycle roads branch off in the Wine Hills, inland from Abruzzo.

Art Bike & Run + Wine offers three days of events and activities for the whole family, May 17-19, 2024. Cycling, biking, food and wine bike ride, as well as street art, meetings, sociability, and tasting of typical Abruzzo food and wine on the Via Verde, the spectacular route from where the last edition of the Giro d’Italia kicked off.

Instead, on June 22, Appennino Bike Tour will start Appennino Bike Tour a particularly significant edition of the collective pedaling along the wonderful Apennine Cycleway because the 3,100 kilometers of the route this time will all be served by vertical signage thanks to the volunteer work of ViviAppennino and Legambiente and the project funded by the Ministry of Transportation. From Liguria to Sicily, you will be able to ride along stupendous low-traffic roads crossing 14 regions, 56 parks and protected areas and more than 300 municipalities in 44 stages each equipped with rest and recharging areas equipped with a small mini-workshop. It is the most important sustainable tourism project ever carried out in our country to discover, by pedaling, the Italy of small villages among nature and hidden beauties. Appennino Bike Tour, created through a collaboration between ViviAppennino and Legambiente, will end on Aug. 11.
